Your Library is turning 130 years old in May! To commemorate this milestone, we’re throwing a birthday celebration on Thursday, May 1 from 6-7:30 p.m. The 130th celebration will include 13 special guest readers from our community—one for each decade—reading from beloved books, poems, and children’s stories. And, of course, there will be birthday cake and refreshments!
Attendees can look forward to readings from community figures and library lovers, including Langston Centre Supervisor Adam Dickson; singer/songwriter and owner of The Down Home, Ed Snodderly; author and retired WETS-FM Station Director Wayne Winkler; Johnson City Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Bob Cantler; Johnson City Board of Education member Kathy Hall; ETSU Poet in Residence and English professor Dr. Jesse Graves; and Library Board President Jennifer Dixon, among others.
You’ll find the full schedule of readers here. All ages are welcome to drop by anytime between 6-7:30 p.m.; the readings will all be family-friendly.
Along with the birthday party, we’re hosting an exhibit in the Library’s Galleria about our 130-year past. You’ll see old photographs, blueprints, and more from different eras of the Library’s history. The exhibit can be viewed during the month of May.
