Is your child interested in computer programming? If so, your Library has a great opportunity for them! We’re partnering with iCode Tri-Cities to offer two coding classes this fall for ages 8-12, iCode: Foundations of Coding and iCode: Digital Art. The classes meet in the Library’s Jones Meeting Center.

The Library is offering these classes because, as JCPL Assistant Director of Children’s Services Suzy Bomgardner says, “Computer programming brings out the creative genius in kids, and it supports logical thinking and problem solving skills.”

She continues, “I’m so excited to see kids engaged and motivated by what they learn in these classes. I hope the iCode crew will inspire a whole new generation of programmers.”

iCode Tri-Cities provides tech, coding, and STEM education through partnerships with schools and organizations in the Tri-Cities. Find out about iCode’s work here.

You can learn more about and register for the Library’s iCode classes below.

iCode: Foundations of Coding

Is your young techno-wizard ready to learn the language of computers? On Friday, Sept. 20 at 4 p.m., iCode instructors will teach kids the foundations of writing and applying computer code. Students in this fun, hands-on class will put algorithms into practice by programming and running robot mice!

Registration is required; sign up here.

iCode: Digital Art

Kids will learn the basics of digital art from iCode instructors in this hands-on class on Friday, Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. Students will explore the why and how of programming language, then create their own digital sketches!

Registration is required; sign up here beginning Tuesday, Oct. 8.
