Do your school age kids like drawing? Do they enjoy the illustrations in their books? Then bring them to the Library to learn drawing from a real-life illustrator!
Your Library is honored to host children’s book illustrator MacKenzie Haley on Thursday, Aug. 24 at 6:30 p.m. She will lead a guided drawing session for ages 6-12 in the Library’s Jones Meeting Center. Registration is not required, and all the art supplies will be provided.
Along with the guided drawing, Haley will share about her process of illustrating a picture book from start to finish, and how she uses drawing techniques and color palettes to create characters.
Haley hopes that in showing kids her own process, they’ll come away from the event with an understanding of what goes into creating a picture book. She wants kids to learn that, as she puts it, “illustration is about progression.”
“I want kids to know that you have to draw a lot to find your ‘style’ and you’ll try many things before you hit on it. And that’s okay, you have to make mistakes to learn from them. A lot of making a picture book is figuring out what doesn’t work!”
